Frequently Asked Questions
How to get to Cabo de la Vela?
Arriving in Riohacha by air:
From Bogotá, there are two daily flights to Almirante Padilla Airport in Riohacha, the capital of the department. Here, travel agencies offer different travel options and alternatives that travelers can arrange directly (check Tourism Plans). Many plans often include visits to the beautiful beaches of Manaure, passing through Uribia, the Indigenous capital of Colombia, and the Jepirrachi Wind Park, before arriving at Cabo de la Vela. In both Riohacha and Uribia, through travel agencies, you can find accommodation in hotels according to your preferred plan and transportation in 4×4 vehicles to continue the journey to the Cape.
Departing from Riohacha:
Travelers arriving in Riohacha should stay overnight in the city (according to the selected hotel). The following day, very early (7:00 a.m.), take a taxi and ask to be taken to the transport companies Tierra del Sol or Cootraurí (Maurima), which will take you to Uribia (the fare ranges around $20,000 COP), a one-hour journey. In Uribia, you will find a place called Cuatro Vías. There you should stay, and you will find trucks that will transport you to Cabo de la Vela (the fare may range from $40,000 to $50,000 COP). Any truck you take will bring you to Ranchería Utta, where Mrs. Elba Gómez is located. It is a long journey that may take between three and four hours, as the trucks travel through the rural settlements of the area. Note: The trucks from Uribia are a public service. Only three or four vehicles depart for Cabo de la Vela, and it is recommended to arrive before 1:00 p.m., when the last vehicle departs for the Cape.
