Simple, orderly, and clean. There is no electricity in the cabins during the day, only after 5 p.m. You don’t come to a place like this for luxury. A standing fan is provided, which is very helpful at night.

FAQ

Arriving in Riohacha by Air:

From Bogotá, there are two daily flights to Almirante Padilla Airport in Riohacha, the capital of the department. From there, local travel agencies offer different tour options that travelers can arrange directly. These plans often include visits to the beautiful beaches of Manaure, a stop in Uribia, Colombia’s indigenous capital, and the Jepírachi Wind Park, before continuing on to Cabo de la Vela.

In both Riohacha and Uribia, you can also arrange accommodation through local agencies, choosing from different hotels based on your travel plan, as well as 4×4 transportation to continue the journey to Cabo de la Vela.

Departing from Riohacha

Here’s the clear, usable English version, stripped of the chaos:
Passengers arriving in Riohacha should stay overnight in the city at their selected hotel. The next morning, very early (around 7:00 a.m.), take a taxi to the Tierra del Sol, Cootrauri, or Maurima transport offices. From there, shared vehicles will take you to Uribia. The trip takes about one hour, and the fare is approximately COP 20,000.

In Uribia, go to a place called Cuatro Vías. There you will find 4×4 trucks that travel to Cabo de la Vela. The fare usually ranges between COP 40,000 and 50,000. Any of these vehicles will take you to Ranchería Utta, where Elba Gómez will welcome you.

The journey from Uribia to Cabo de la Vela takes about three to four hours, as the vehicles pass through several rural communities along the way.

Important:
The 4×4 trucks from Uribia are public transportation and usually leave in groups of three or four vehicles. It is strongly recommended to arrive before 1:00 p.m., as this is when the last vehicles depart for Cabo de la Vela.

  1. “Kamaishi” Sugar Loaf Rock:
Take a walk to the Sugar Loaf, a striking rock formation with panoramic views of the sea and the Guajira desert.
  2. Lighthouse Viewpoint
  3. “Lojo’u” – Ojo de Agua (Freshwater Spring)
  4. Visit Ranchería Ipotshiru, where our partner Elida Sánchez Girnu and her family welcome you into their authentic ranchería, where you can dance and experience their culture up close.
  5. Kite surfing
  6. Visit the Cultural Enramada. At Ranchería Utta, ask for the Cultural Enramada, a space where open dialogue about Wayuu culture comes to life.
  7. Buy Wayuu handicrafts directly from the local weavers you will find in the area.
In this remote region of La Guajira, continuous electricity is limited, but at Ranchería Utta we have put solutions in place for your comfort. We provide power from generators from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., allowing you to rest with ventilation and charge your devices overnight. We also offer charging stations in common areas, so you always have access to what you need during your cultural and nature-focused stay.

We offer Wi-Fi access points in our common areas. You can also stay connected through CLARO mobile coverage, so make sure to purchase a CLARO SIM card for your trip if you want reliable connectivity throughout your stay.
